Baltimore House

Central to Our Mission

Boys Hope Girls Hope is a national non-profit organization, reaching out to at-risk children and providing a stable home, positive parenting, and high quality education. With 36 locations in 16 cities all over the U.S., and 2 homes in Guatemala and Brazil, the organization welcomes boys and girls from 10 to 18 years old into its residences. Beyond this scope, after-care services continue for scholars beyond these ages and parental resources are available to family members as well.

Emphasis on Education
Our children attend first-rate schools and are taught organizational and study skills. Mandatory study periods are held in the homes during the school week and tutoring and special academic programs are provided to those who require additional support. All of the children are expected to attend periodic cultural and enrichment activities. College is the goal and the program provides college financial assistance to high school graduates.

Value-Centered Homes
Children live in neighborhood homes with qualified live-in counselors who provide support, guidance and discipline. Only qualified professionals serve as live-in staff. Respect for each individual is the basic rule of all Boys Hope Girls Hope homes, where children share rooms and are expected to assist counselors with a variety of daily living tasks.

Extra-curricular Activities
Through required participation in extra-curricular activities at school and within the community, children learn leadership, sportsmanship, loyalty and responsibility. Summer enrichment experiences and sports camps are offered to children under the age of 16. Older children are required to obtain full-time summer jobs in order to begin saving for college.

Firm Moral Structure
Growth in faith and an understanding of God’s purpose in one’s life go hand-in-hand with personal development in other areas. Our children are expected to develop themselves spiritually and participate in weekly worship of their family faith tradition. Positive moral values are emphasized in all aspects of life in the homes. All children are required to participate in community service activities.

Support Services
After-care services are provided to program graduates as well as children no longer participating in the residential program.

This charity offer AmeriCorps Education awards. Programs that offer AmeriCorps Education Awards may not require members to be of any faith or religion, or to participate in inherently religious activities. If an individual chooses to participate in religious activities separately from the AmeriCorps Education Awards Program (AEAP), any such time is not counted towards completing an AmeriCorps time of service. Any participation in a religious activity is voluntary.
